MC

Having a really good MC at an event is a lot like having a professional make-up artist doing your make-up. People will generally compliment you and say how good you look, not say how amazing your make-up makes you look!

When its done right, it simply enhances the overall effect. The same with an emcee. They will bring your event together seamlessly and help to transition between the different elements while keeping people engaged and entertained. A professional highlights the best parts of your function and helps to make them memorable in the minds of the audience.

I’ve been a professional performer on stages across South Africa for 20 years. Playing keyboards and backing vocals in tribute bands, headlining shows to crowds of over 1 000 people, and guiding audiences through a function from behind the microphone – this is what I enjoy about being an emcee.

Being 6’4” (1,94m) tall, it has been said that I cut an imposing figure in a suit. Add to that the shaved head and the deep baritone voice, it could be perceived as being a little larger than life. However, the smile and the humour, the nuance and the charm quickly put audiences at ease as I take them through the program.

My ability to read an audience and think on my feet allows me to adapt to unexpected situations and ensure that the client’s vision for their event is still realised. And this translates into being an effective virtual emcee as well, keeping audiences interested and engaged online through online webinar platforms.
